Welcome to my website.  Here you can find information about two of my books -- The Disorder of Longing, a historical novel which was published by Putnam in 2008; and Love After Zero, a dystopian novel which is complete and polished and seeking publication. 

You can read about Love After Zero, and the book's first chapters, if you click on the link to its page.  When Love After Zero is published, I'll post information about readings, interviews, blog posts, etc. on the Upcoming Events page. 

My blog, The Phantom Word, will examine the business of publishing, including my experiences having already sold a book to a major publishing house, and my efforts to publish a second book.  I hope this conversation will be useful to others who are on the same road -- or who will be soon.

I also plan to write about craft issues in my blog, including ideas and insights from my time teaching creative writing and my time as a student in the MFA program at Vermont College of Fine Arts.

Now and then, I will discuss books I have read and liked and feel inspired to share.
